December 11th, 2009 Aaron No comments

Valentino Rossi has got his wish – the maximum engine capacity for MotoGP will return to 1,000cc from 2012 onwards, ending the era of what the Yamaha star has in the past described as ‘the biggest mistake the world championship has made in the last 15 years’.

Damn right! (Emphasis mine)

The announcement was made following a reunion of the Grand Prix Commission at the Geneva headquarters of governing body the FIM to discuss the future of MotoGP, assembling leading representatives from commercial and television rights-holder Dorna and the Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers’ Association (MSMA).  Read more…

Official: Ben Spies to MotoGP in 2010

October 1st, 2009 Aaron No comments

The saga of when Ben Spies will move to MotoGP has finally been settled with an official announcement that the World Superbike title contender will move to Tech 3 Yamaha in 2010.

With Colin Edwards also agreeing a one-year Tech 3 extension, former double World Superbike champion James Toseland is to swap with Spies and join the factory Yamaha WSBK team, bringing an end to Toseland’s MotoGP career – which began promisingly in 2008, but fell below expectations in 2009.  Read more…

Spies to Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP in 2010!!

September 17th, 2009 Aaron No comments

Woohoo! If this is true, congrats Ben.  He is putting it to them in WSBK and will surely give ‘em a run in MotoGP.

THE HOTTEST rumour doing the rounds at the moment concerns two of the hottest riders in the WSBK series.

Ben Spies, our sources tell us, has already inked the deal to join Colin Edwards at the Tech 3 MotoGP squad for 2010. This frees up his seat with the Belgarda Yamaha WSBK team; British ace Cal Crutchlow is the hot rumour to take Spies’ ride.

Spies has been a revelation this year and it would be short-sighted of Yamaha to curb this confidence by clipping his wings and making him stay in WSBK for another season. The same applies to Crutchlow who has been on fire since the season opener.

Looks like another interesting season on the World stage.  Source.

Kevin Schwantz Interview

May 22nd, 2009 Aaron No comments

The first time I met Kevin Schwantz was at Misano in 1986. He was already on his way to becoming a superstar, with some amazing performances in the AMA series as well as showing us what he could do at the Transatlantic Match races that same year on the GSX-R750. He was lanky, he was blond and we were both testing the last of the square-four Suzuki RG500s and both desperate to get into 500 GPs. I guess that’s why we were polite to each other, but wary of one another too. But we both made the grade and actually became team-mates at Suzuki for 1990 after I was drafted in to replace Kevin Magee, who was injured at the beginning of the season. One of the big things I remember about Kevin is he used to throw stuff around the garage when things weren’t going too well, which is why I used to keep my helmet on… With some of the questions I asked him for this interview, I stuck my AGV back on again, but he’s a bit more relaxed now, unlike me who’s doing his first superstar interview – even if it is with a mate…
