Texan Woman Told to Remove ‘Offensive’ American Flag From Office

Debbie McLucas comes from a patriotic family – her husband and both of her sons served in the U.S. military, and her daughter is currently deployed to Iraq on her second tour of duty as a combat medic.

So when McLucas arrived at work at a Texas hospital last Friday, she was stunned to be told that the Stars and Stripes she had hung in her office in advance of Memorial Day were offensive, and that the flag had been removed.

The ‘Chosen One’ Wants More of Your Money

May 27th, 2009 Aaron No comments

With budget deficits soaring and President Obama pushing a trillion-dollar-plus expansion of health coverage, some Washington policymakers are taking a fresh look at a money-making idea long considered politically taboo: a national sales tax.

Common around the world, including in Europe, such a tax — called a value-added tax, or VAT — has not been seriously considered in the United States. But advocates say few other options can generate the kind of money the nation will need to avert fiscal calamity.

At a White House conference earlier this year on the government’s budget problems, a roomful of tax experts pleaded with Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner to consider a VAT. A recent flurry of books and papers on the subject is attracting genuine, if furtive, interest in Congress. And last month, after wrestling with the White House over the massive deficits projected under Obama’s policies, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee declared that a VAT should be part of the debate.

5/23/09 Madison Indiana Ride Report

May 24th, 2009 Aaron No comments

We had a great turn out.  About 27 of us gathered at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Madison.  The slimy water crossings were a challenge again.  Several riders fell and near the end of the ride Ken hit a huge pothole and crashed hard.  His front rim was badly dented.  See the RR below for the details and what happened during the roadside repair attempt.  :)

Johnson has words of warning for Danica

May 22nd, 2009 Aaron No comments

I wonder how some of the NASCAR drivers would react if she came running up to them trying to fight after an on-track incident?  -Aaron

The Indianapolis 500 is Sunday and we know this because we’ve been treated to a month of questions to Danica Patrick about when she’s going to give NASCAR a try.

It’s a sign of how far general interest in open-wheel racing, not to mention its signature event, has fallen. The hard-core fans will still turn out and tune in this weekend, but it’s saying something when the most asked question is about the future of a driver who isn’t even a favorite to win the race.

Kevin Schwantz Interview

May 22nd, 2009 Aaron No comments

The first time I met Kevin Schwantz was at Misano in 1986. He was already on his way to becoming a superstar, with some amazing performances in the AMA series as well as showing us what he could do at the Transatlantic Match races that same year on the GSX-R750. He was lanky, he was blond and we were both testing the last of the square-four Suzuki RG500s and both desperate to get into 500 GPs. I guess that’s why we were polite to each other, but wary of one another too. But we both made the grade and actually became team-mates at Suzuki for 1990 after I was drafted in to replace Kevin Magee, who was injured at the beginning of the season. One of the big things I remember about Kevin is he used to throw stuff around the garage when things weren’t going too well, which is why I used to keep my helmet on… With some of the questions I asked him for this interview, I stuck my AGV back on again, but he’s a bit more relaxed now, unlike me who’s doing his first superstar interview – even if it is with a mate…
